Chapter History

The Philadelphia Chapter of JCSU Alumni Association has been serving and contributing to JCSU since 1959.

The Philadelphia Chapter is among those chapters actively engaged in the support of their Alma Mater.  This Chapter under the leadership of its energetic president, Mr. Vincent G. Mallory, presented the University Choir in concert in 1959.

In 1962, the Chapter won first place in the Philadelphia Inter Alumni Council’s United Negro College Fund Drive, contributing $1,118 to the fund that year under the leadership of Mrs. Ruth Ellis Davis, president.

In 1963, the Chapter published the first edition of its newsletter, “The Span,” to “cement the togetherness among alumni.  This activity was under the leadership of Mr. Williams H. Davis, who had suceded his wife as president.

Mr. John L. Holton became president in 1964 and continued the lively and rewarding activities of his predecessors.

On Saturday, March 30, 1974, the Philadelphia Chapter sponsored an elaborate “Past Presidents Luncheon.”  With Mrs. Maggie L. Mallory presiding, the following past presidents were honored:

  • S.Q. Mitchell

  • T.C. Mitchell

  • Curley G. Goore

  • Clarence S. Ross

  • Ruth E. Davis

  • John L. Holton

  • Charles W. Baulknight

  • Dorothy P. Watkins

  • James T. Boyd

  • Vincent G. Mallory

  • Williams H. Davis

  • Armetis A. Taylor

Mr. Taylor was honored by the Philadelphia Chapter in 1972 with the Chapter’s Alumni Award for the year.
